Stations of the Cross

CrucifixionThe Stations of the Cross have formed part of Christian devotion at Passiontide for many centuries. They enable us to engage actively with the path of suffering walked by Jesus.

The Stations originated when early Christians visited Jerusalem and wanted to follow literally in the footsteps of Jesus, tracing the path from Pilate’s house to Calvary. They would pause for prayer and devotion at various points.

On Monday and Wednesday of Holy Week (April 15th and 17th) at 7.30pm, we shall be praying the Stations of the Cross at St Saviour’s Parish Church. We shall meet in silence in the nave. A member of the ministry team will then lead the congregation around the church, pausing to reflect and pray at a series of ‘stations’ where we recall episodes in the story of Jesus’ condemnation and death. At the end of the service we shall leave in silence.
