Ministry with children

inner8

Around 60 children worship as part of our parish family each Sunday, and many more come to mid-week events at our parish centre. So there are lots of options for adults who wish to work with children in our community.

We seek to work in partnership with parents to help children to come to a Christian faith which is their own and to grow in their knowledge of God and all that he wants for their lives. We work to provide a church environment for children and their families which is welcoming, safe, and engaging.

There are a number of ways you can get involved.

Sand

Sand runs at the same time as our main Sunday morning service, and is for children from birth till admission to primary school. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. There is a regular pattern of prayers, songs, and activities, as well as an opportunity each week to interact with a story from the Bible. The emphasis is on learning and having fun. Sand is led by members of our ministry team or a qualified teacher, assisted by other adults.

Pebbles

Pebbles is for children in Key Stage 1 at school. It meets at the same time as our main Sunday morning service. Pebbles involves a child-friendly service, and opportunities to interact in age-appropriate ways with the Scriptures. Often, but not always, there is a craft activity.

Pebbles is led by teams of volunteer leaders, who are commissioned each year in the autumn. Training and support material is provided, and leaders hold DBS clearance.

Messy Church

Messy Church at St Saviour’s is for primary school children, though younger siblings are also welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Messy Church meets once per month, on a Wednesday afternoon from 3.30pm till 5.30pm, in our Parish Centre. Children interact with a Bible story, or with an aspect of the Christian life, through a range of activities and crafts, and then go into Church for a short service, followed by the opportunity for everyone to share a simple meal together.

We’re always looking for friendly faces to join the teams who minister at this event. There are a range of ways you can get involved – as a welcomer, overseeing a craft table, or as part of the catering team. To get involved, please complete the form below.

Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade

The Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade (CLGB) is a Church of England youth organisation with branches in many parts of the world. CLGB gives children the opportunity to grow in their Christian faith in a supportive, friendly and fun environment, with a wide range of activities available. Members are expected to attend the monthly Sunday morning parade service on Church, and there is an opportunity also to attend an annual camp.

We have two brigades in our parish – one at St Saviour’s and one at St Andrew’s. If you’d like to get involved as a leader, please complete the form below.
