Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for he is gracious.

Psalm 135:3

Music has played an important part in the worship of the Christian church for more than a thousand years, enriching our experience of public prayer and raising our hearts to God in worship.

At St Saviour’s, we value a range of music, and the music at our services is a mixture of classical hymns, polyphony and contemporary worship songs.

Our Parish’s Director of Music is Dr Glyn Môn Hughes, our Associate Director of Music is Jon Barton, and Alison Welding leads both our Worship Band and our Children’s Choir. Glyn works in close collaboration with our Vicar to nurture and to continue to build our tradition of high quality music serving our worshipping life.

Our Parish Church is blessed with a fine organ.

Parish Choir

Our Parish Church has a long choral tradition, and we continue to value choral music today. Our Church Choir sings at our 9.15am service on Sundays (except the first Sunday of each month), at major festivals and occasionally at other events. Rehearsals take place on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm. We’re always keen to welcome new members. If you would like to get involved, please phone our Director of Music, Dr Glyn Môn Hughes, on 0151 608 3361 or 07979 815419.

Occasional Choir

Members of the Occasional Choir at St Saviour’s supplement our Church Choir for Choral Evensong once a month and at major festivals. Other events include carol services in December and a setting of the Passion narrative in Passiontide.

If you would like to be involved in this way, you would need to attend at least two rehearsals prior to the particular event. Please phone our Director of Music directly, to enquire.

Worship Band

Our Worship Band leads the music at our informal Sunday morning service at 10.45am on the first Sunday of each month. We rehearse on Wednesdays in term-time at 8.00pm in our Parish Centre. We’re always keen to welcome new members. If you’re interested in getting involved, as a singer or an instrumentalist, just come along on a Wednesday, or contact our Parish Office (tel. 0151 653 3366).

Children’s Choir

Our Children’s Choir meets on Wednesdays in term-time, 6.00pm till 7.00pm, in our Parish Centre. Primary School children from Year 1 up are welcome – if you’re interested, simply come along any Wednesday – when you can have fun, make new friends, learn new songs, games and rhymes, and at the same time improve your musical knowledge. Refreshments are provided during the session. Our Children’s Choir also has occasional opportunities to perform.
