The Reredos    The War Memorial    The Font    The Lady Chapel    The West Window

The West Window St Saviour's Church

The window is a supreme example of Sir Edward Burne-Jones design, executed by William Morris. Christ in heaven is surrounded by angels in the top rose. Two lower roses contain angels with dulcimers, ringed by seraph heads. The five main lights exhibit two rows of figures; Christ in the centre is flanked by two angels with lutes in the outer pair, Deborah and an angel with lutes in the inner. Beneath are five female figures; Hope, Truth, the Virgin Mary, Prayer and Faith. The window was removed for safety during the war, so the glass is original (except for one portion which was lost or damaged and had to be replaced. It is thought this is 'Truth').

The window is a memorial to George Rae (1817-1902).
