Appointment of the Rev Marc Wolverson as the next Vicar of St Saviour’s, Oxton
Those who were in church on Sunday 23rd March will have heard the news of the appointment of our next Vicar. We do not yet have a date for his induction, but anticipate that it will be in June, subject to the completion of formalities. A letter from Rev Marc is attached below, but for the benefit of those not present (or unable to hear the full announcement because of problems with the sound system), details not included in the letter are as follows.
Rev Marc is currently Vicar of St James, Leyland, in the Diocese of Blackburn, where he also served as Area Dean of Leyland for eight years.
He was born in England to a British father and Iranian mother, but grew up in the USA, where he lived until after graduating from university. He returned to England to train for the priesthood at Ripon College, Cuddeston, and was ordained in 1996, in the Diocese of Chester, where he served his curacy at St Mary’s Nantwich. Rev Marc then served as Associate Vicar of St Michael’s, Bramhall and Vicar of St Thomas, High Lane, in this diocese. Between 2009 and 2013 he was Priest in Charge of All Saints, Douglas, in the Isle of Man, and Area Dean of Douglas, before taking up his current post.
Rev Marc was elected to serve on the General Synod for five years, whilst in this diocese, and has also been Vice-Chair of the House of Clergy on the Blackburn Diocesan Synod. He is a regular broadcaster on community radio and BBC Radio Lancashire.
