Advertisement – Oxton Church Choir

The PCC of Oxton St Saviour seeks to appoint to two paid positions:

  • an Organist (temporary basis);
  • a Choir Leader (temporary basis).

The PCC also seeks to appoint on a voluntary basis:

  • an Assistant Choir Leader (temporary basis);
  • Choir Chaperones.

The successful applicants for the posts of Choir Leader, Assistant Choir Leader, and Organist will display:

  • sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Christian Church and the Anglican tradition
  • enthusiasm for, and expertise in, choral music, and the place of music in liturgy
  • a high level of musical knowledge and ability, which will enable the person to fulfil the purpose of the role well
  • ability to relate and communicate with the church’s ministers, choir members and other musicians
  • awareness of, and commitment to, safeguarding standards of the Church of England
  • experience of working with children and young people is desirable
  • understand the needs of children in a predominantly adult environment.
  • a positive, friendly, helpful attitude
  • ability to work as part of the team, and to act with due reverence and courtesy
  • ability and willingness to offer leadership to ensure a harmonious and productive environment
  • flexibility to learn
  • a willingness attend training sessions, as required.

Additionally, it is desirable that the Choir Leader and Assistant Choir Leader have practical experience of leading a choir; they should be able to nurture and inspire choir members to high standards of musicianship and conduct. The organist must be a competent organist, and experience of playing a church organ is desirable.

The successful applicants for the roles of Choir Chaperone should:

  • have sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Christian Church and the Anglican tradition
  • show awareness of, and commitment to, safeguarding standards of the Church of England
  • have experience of working with groups of young people
  • understand the needs of children in a predominantly adult environment
  • be friendly and approachable with a good sense of humour
  • be able to relate well to, and communicate clearly with young people between the ages of 7 – 17 and their parents
  • be flexible and able to deal with unexpected situations and respond calmly.
  • have a genuine interest in the Church Choir and its work
  • be physically fit and able to use stairs as the choir moves around the building
  • show ability to work as part of the team, and to act with due reverence and courtesy
  • be willing to contribute to a harmonious and productive environment
  • be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • be willing to robe as part of the choir during services
  • show flexibility to learn
  • have a willingness to attend training sessions, as required
